Howard Rowlee Lecture Series 2001

The Fifth Annual Howard Rowlee Lecture will be given by Professor Vaughan F.R. Jones of the University of California, Berkeley. The lecture will be held at 4:00PM, Friday April 20, 2001 in the Union Auditorium, 14th and R Streets. There will be a reception immediately following the lecture, in the Union.

Professor Jones is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Royal Society. He is a recipient of the Fields Medal for his work connecting operator algebras and knot theory.

Knots

Abstract:We shall give a very biased and personal view of the history of the mathematical theory of knots.

Additional Talks

On Saturday, April 21, the Department will host a special day-long meeting of the Iowa Nebraska Functional Analysis Seminar, including a specialized talk by Professor Jones.
