Student Spotlight: Diego Galvan

Diego Galvan
Major: Mathematics
Year in School: Junior

Where are you from?
Bellevue, Nebraska

What gets you excited about Math?
I am constantly fascinated by the application of math to the world. Every time there’s a certain application to some equation, I am very excited because the world has a lot of unsolved physical problems that would benefit society if worked on.

Favorite math class or instructor? Why?
Math 424: Partial Differential Equations convinced me to switch to a math major during my second year. I realized then there was much more application out there than I had originally thought.

What are you excited about doing after graduation?
I am very excited to pursue graduate school and discover what my next step is! I love working hard and devoting myself to things.

What is a goal you have accomplished as a Husker?
I have many goals I have accomplished and more that are being worked on. One goal in particular that I accomplished was familiarizing myself with the research side of mathematics. In working with Assistant Professor Adam Larios, I have learned and gained more skills than I ever thought possible. Collaboration is an important side of mathematics!

What do you hope to cross off your “bucket list” in the next few years?
I hope to publish a research paper before I graduate. Also, I may attempt to run a full marathon at some point, too!
