What are the deadlines for Fall Semester admission?
For Domestic Students or International applications

The UNL Department of Mathematics encourages you to submit your application materials as soon as possible.
Late Applications: Applications received after the deadline will be considered for admission but may not considered for funding dependent upon the availability of assistantships.

What are the minimum requirements of GRE scores?
The UNL Department of Mathematics recommends but does not require the GRE General, but if provided, are used as part of the overall admissions and premium fellowship decision making process along with other criteria.
What are the minimum requirements of TOEFL scores?
TOEFL score of 100 (internet based), or IELTS scores above 7.5 are required. These scores are used as part of the overall decision-making process along with other criteria.
What is the minimum GPA required for admission?
The UNL Department of Mathematics does not have a minimum GPA score required for admission to our program; however, GPA scores are considered as one part of the information necessary to make admission decisions concerning applicants. We prefer GPA scores of 3.0+, but will consider other scores based on letters, publications, references, and other application materials.
Do I have to take the Subject GRE?
The UNL Department of Mathematics does not require the GRE mathematics subject exam.

You may request additional reports of GRE and TOEFL Scores from ETS online: GRE Scores TOEFL Scores. Our school code is 6877.

What is the fee for submitting a graduate application?
The UNL graduate application fee is $50.
What opportunities are there for financial assistance during the graduate program?
Applicants may request financial support to pursue graduate study in Mathematics. Financial assistance includes both a tuition waiver and a yearly stipend through a Graduate Teaching Assistantship. In addition, particularly well-qualified applicants will be considered for available Graduate Fellowships. For additional information, please see:

Who should I ask to complete letters of recommendation?
The most useful letters of recommendation are those from professionals able to comment specifically on your academic and technical ability in mathematics.
Three letters are required. You are allowed to submit up to five letters.
What type of research is being done and who are the professors involved?
Research is ongoing in Algebra, Discrete Mathematics. Topology, Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Biology, Mathematics Education, Pure and applied Analysis. . Click here for specific information about individual professor's research work.
Do I need to contact a faculty member about being their student before applying?
You do not need to contact an individual faculty member before applying to our program. Pre-advisors are assigned to each student when they are admitted. Once a student has decided on a research are they will then ask a faculty member to be their advisor and chair their supervisory committee.

My undergraduate degree is not in mathematics. Would I be considered for admission to the MS/PhD program?
Successful applicants will likely have some proof courses, that is, courses where the student are expected to give mathematical proofs. If you have such courses, even if you did not major in math, it will help your application.
