Why did you select your major(s) and minor(s)? Were there any events or people that convinced you to declare?
I wanted to major in a field that would push me to leverage my love for mathematics and solving problems for the betterment of society. I came into college very unsure of what I should pursue, and Dr. Joann Ross helped me select Data Science, as she felt that my strong background in math and passion for service would be put to good use here :)
What is your favorite course you have taken from your program(s) and why?
Math 440
This course taught us about how computers solve math problems. I take a lot of pride in owning my TI-84, and it was really interesting to see how that machine solves problems like finding zeroes, approximating functions, etc. On exams, we were expected to solve math problems that we learned in our earlier years, but by the computer's methodology.
Who have been some of your strongest mentors or role models here?
My strongest mentor is Letty Garcia from OASIS. She has been an excellent mentor as she has taught me to seek out necessary resources whenever I am facing a problem. She taught me to value myself beyond my academic achievements and relationships.
