Jacqueline H. Chen is a Senior Scientist at the Combustion Research Facility at Sandia National Laboratories.  She has contributed broadly to research in turbulent combustion elucidating ‘turbulence-chemistry’ interactions in combustion through direct numerical simulations. To achieve scalable performance of DNS on heterogeneous computer architectures she led an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, applied mathematicians and computational scientists  to develop an exascale direct numerical simulation capability (Pele) for turbulent reactive flows with complex chemistry and multi-physics. She is the PI of a DOE Genesis AI project on developing a physics informed foundation model for multi-physics flows.  She has developed reduced order modeling methods to accelerate DNS with complex chemistry and for combustion modeling.  She is a member of the United States National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Combustion Institute and the American Physical Society and is a recipient of the DOE Distinguished Scientists Fellow Award and the Society of Women Engineers Achievement Award.  She received two R&D100 Awards on the Pele AMR DNS suite of reacting flow codes in 2026 and Legion: A data-centric programming system in 2020.
