Assistant Professor Shiying Li received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University. She was a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Virginia, and then at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research lies at the intersection of optimal transport and mathematical data science, focusing on developing new data representation frameworks and meaningful distances for high-dimensional nonlinear data. In particular, her work leverages the data geometry associated with optimal-transport-based embeddings to enhance the efficiency and interpretability of machine learning algorithms. She is also interested in manifold learning algorithms for biological applications.
