Suzanne Sindi is a Professor and former Department Chair of Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Merced. A founding member of the campus Committee on Research Computing, she serves as Co-PI on the NSF-MRI grants establishing the MERCED and Pinnacles clusters and as PI on the NSF-CC* grant that created the campus Science DMZ. She is dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups in STEM, co-founding UC Merced’s W-STEM group and organizing AWM workshops at the SIAM Annual Meeting. As a mathematical biologist, her research combines analytical and computational modeling to study systems such as protein aggregation diseases and blood coagulation, generating experimentally testable hypotheses with potential therapeutic impact. Her lab includes graduate students from UC Merced and the University of Lyon, supported by funding from the NSF, NIH, and Army Office of Scientific Research. Outside of work, she enjoys science fiction, theatre and film, true crime podcasts, and time with Sully and Zoey; she also fulfilled bucket-list goals in 2020 by making a short film and appearing on a science podcast. Originally from Placentia, California, she is the proud daughter of immigrants from Saudi Arabia and the Açores.
