Yvonne Lai, Milton E. Mohr professor in the Department of Mathematics, has earned the 2025 Award for Impact on the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics from the American Mathematical Society (AMS).

Established in 2013, the award is given annually to a mathematician (or group of mathematicians) for significant contributions of lasting value to mathematics education.

"Dr. Yvonne Lai exhibits a deep, energetic, and abiding commitment to supporting improvements in mathematics education at all levels, and to creating a more inclusive and equitable mathematics community," the AMS wrote in the prize citation. "She leads in bridging the gap between the mathematics and mathematics education communities, working to find common ground even in the face of divisive issues."
