Undergraduate Participants

What are the eligibility requirements for the conference?

Due to Nebraska law and UNL policies, attendees cannot register unless they will be at least 19 years of age on or before January 26, 2024. The conference is open to college students who have reached sophomore status at the time of the conference.

What is the registration fee for the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics?

The conference registration fee is $50 for both students and faculty. Students will pay the registration fee at the time of registration. Students who are not accepted due to space limitations will be refunded their fee.

Do I have to present a talk or a poster to attend the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Math?

No. If this will be your first time participating in NCUWM, you are not expected to present. However, if you have previously attended NCUWM and want to attend a second time, you are expected to present a talk or a poster.

I am a graduate student. Can I attend NCUWM as a participant?

No - the conference is limited to undergraduates in mathematics. If you are interested in participating as an invited graduate student in future years, please contact the conference at ncuwm@unl.edu

Where do I go for registration?

Students interested in presenting a talk or poster at the 2024 conference should complete an application between Oct. 2 and Oct. 9, 2023, for review by Oct. 18. Presenter applications received after Oct. 9 will be reviewed as long as talk and poster slots remain open. Non-presenters and faculty can register until Nov. 17 or until we reach capacity. Due to Nebraska law and UNL policies, attendees cannot register unless they will be at least 19 years of age on or before January 26, 2024. Attendees must also be at least of sophomore standing at the time of the conference. Applicants must complete all registration materials requested by conference staff by Nov. 17, 2023.

What expenses am I responsible for?

Undergraduate student participants are responsible for the registration fee, lunch on Saturday, and dinner on Saturday (all other meals at the conference are provided), and travel to and from the conference. Students are encouraged to seek support from their home institutions to subsidize these expenses. The conference also has a limited number of travel awards; the Travel Support Request Form is available on the website here as a survey form.

How do I ask for funding support?

How do I receive the award once I have been approved for travel funds?

Reimbursement forms will be available at the conference registration desk. Please bring a copy of your flight itinerary or know the mileage you drove. Alternatively, electronic receipts may be emailed to Jennifer Collier at jennifer.collier@unl.edu.

How do I pay my registration fees?

As an individual, you can pay your registration fee by mailing a check or submitting credit card payment through the SciMath Portal in the registration site. We encourage you to pay by check. If your institution has confirmed that they will pay your registration fee, you will indicate on the site that your institution will be paying via check and need an invoice. I am unable to attend the conference. Who do I notify to cancel?

To cancel your registration, please notify Mike Bergland-Riese at ncuwm@unl.edu as soon as you realize you will be unable to attend.

If I cancel my registration, will I be eligible for a refund?

No; refunds of registration fees will not be processed.

How do I make my hotel reservation?

For Undergraduate Participants only: You will fill out the lodging information on your application form. Once you are accepted, hotel reservations will then be completed by the conference staff. If you have a preference not listed on our page, please contact Mike Bergland-Riese at ncuwm@unl.edu before Nov. 17.

How do I get from the Lincoln airport to the hotel?

When you arrive at the Lincoln airport, there is a free shuttle provided by the Embassy Suites to take you to the hotel. If you do not see the shuttle outside (it is a white and green van), then find a courtesy phone located in the baggage claim area to call Embassy Suites and ask for the shuttle to be sent to the airport. The number to Embassy Suites is 402-474-1111 if the courtesy phone is not available.

What if I need to arrive early or stay late?

The conference provides lodging for Friday and Saturday. If your travel requires an extra night (or two), please make note on your conference registration after acceptance and before Nov. 17. Depending on the available conference funds, we may be able to cover additional nights. Regardless, you will need to provide the hotel with a credit card upon check-in.

What if I want my own room?

If you want a single room, you will be responsible for the additional expense, which is $60 each day. Be prepared to present a credit card when checking in at the hotel.

How do I request a roommate?

Please complete your registration form to make this request. In order to room with a specific person, all of you will need to request each other on the form. If this does not happen, you will be randomly assigned a roommate by conference staff. Please note that the Embassy Suites Hotel has three beds per room so you are most likely going to be assigned two roommates.

How do I change my requested roommate?

After acceptance, the deadline for changing your lodging and travel details is Nov. 17. Changes after this date can be requested to Mike Bergland-Riese at ncuwm@unl.edu, but will not be guaranteed.

I'm flying into Omaha. How do I get to Lincoln?

There are shuttle services that will transport you from Omaha Eppley Airport to the Embassy Suites Lincoln: Leisure Limousine and OmaLink. You may also rent a car for the weekend. While you are required to cover the expense at the time of the conference, you may request travel assistance. Travel funds are limited, so please make your request early.

What type of attire should I bring?

The entire conference is business-casual.

Where is the Nebraska Student Union?

The Nebraska Student Union is at 14th and R streets, approximately 6 blocks from the hotel in lovely downtown Lincoln. A map can be found here.

I did a project with another conference participant. Can we present together?

Yes. There is a place to notify conference organizers on the registration page in the Co-Presenter section.

What materials and programs are available to people giving a talk?

We will provide a laptop computer, projector, and a microphone. If you need anything else, please contact Mike Bergland-Riese at ncuwm@unl.edu for accommodation. You may also list your needs on the final details area of the application.

Note: please be sure that your presentation is either on a computer provided by you, or a jump drive/memory stick. No other media will be accessible via our machines. In the event of disaster and our machines are not working properly, be sure to have your presentation available in hard copy.

I have circumstances that require me to request special assistance (captioning, interpreters, etc.). How do I make a request?

The application includes a comments area to make special requests. You may also contact Mike Bergland-Riese at ncuwm@unl.edu with any and all requests, including sign language interpretation, live captioning, accessibility requests, etc.

What meals are provided?

All meals are provided with the exception of lunch and dinner on Saturday.

Faculty Participants

What is the registration fee for the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics?

How do I register for the conference?

The open application period for faculty and staff will be from October 2 to November 17, 2024.

How do I make a hotel reservation?

You must make your own arrangements with the Embassy Suites hotel. If you wish, you can contact the hotel directly at (402) 473-4719. Be sure to indicate you are with NCUWM and group code (Unl Women in Math Rl) for the conference room rates. Or, you can make a reservation online, by clicking here. All reservations must be secured with a credit card.

What expenses am I responsible for?

Faculty are liable for their registration fee, Saturday lunch, travel and lodging. The conference provides meals during the conference except Saturday lunch and Saturday dinner.

Can I pay via credit card?

Yes, payment for individual registrations may be made via credit card through the SciMath portal as well as multiple registrations from one school may be made via credit card. However, we encourage you to pay via check. Contact Mike Bergland-Riese at ncuwm@unl.edu for more information.

I drove with a group of students, can I be reimbursed?

Yes, however, travel support must be pre-approved. Please complete a travel request form by Nov. 17 and include the names of the student(s) attending the conference.

Our school paid for the airline tickets and need to be reimbursed. How do we do that?

Travel support must be pre-approved (due Nov. 17). Please submit an invoice from your home institution that lists all student attendees and costs associated with travel. Please make sure to list your home institution's Federal ID number on the invoice. We cannot reimburse without all of this information.
